Quintum and Microsoft

Quintum Technologies is now a member of the Microsoft Certified Partner Program, assuring customers of seamless interoperability between their existing telephony communications infrastructure and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.

Vice President of Marketing Chuck Rutledge says they had past commercial relationships with Microsoft before moving to the technology adoption program. “Immediately we saw a lot of opportunity based on the kind of effort and strategic approach that Microsoft is putting into unified communications. Upon becoming certified we were offered a lot of promotional and PR opportunities. It allowed us to fully participate in the Microsoft Partner Conference in Denver this past July.”

He adds, “Working closely with the team at Microsoft allows us to develop value-added features, address the newer capabilities that will be available in future versions of OCS and assure that the software is flawless.”

Quintum’s flagship product, the Tenor VoIP MultiPath Switch, offers a customized configuration wizard for OCS which simplifies deployment. Rutledge says the real challenge today is total cost of ownership and deployment of these gateways into a communications network. Explaining further, “Tenor VoIP switches and gateways have integrated switching and call routing in the device. Customers will be able to integrate their legacy voice infrastructure with OCS without the pain of making lots of network modifications."

Quintum seeks to work with customers to not simply provide connectivity to the PSTN but offer migration strategies that allow new investments in Unified Communications while leveraging existing voice infrastructure. “We’re anticipating that OCS customers will face many of the same challenges that IP-PBX vendors have faced in this area where we have been offering a variety of solutions, including branch office support."

For Rutledge, the Denver Partner event was one of the most well-organized he has attended. “We had a lot of opportunities to meet a wide variety of MS integrators and resellers. We talked about their plans and showed how we can work with them, helping to integrate OCS with the legacy world whether in a telephone network or existing voice network.”

The challenge enterprises face is integrating everything from fax machines, postage meters, PA systems, security intercoms, elevator phones, cordless phones and branch offices into their network. Migrating from one architecture to another, Rutledge points out, means that deploying UC and the equipment needed to grow a network will require new approaches.
