Q: I have lines used for security and fire systems. They are not used for long-distance so I blocked toll calling and removed all PICs. Why am I charged PIC fees if I don’t have it on these lines?
A: In fact, your lines are configured with NO PICs or Null PICs. The absence of a PIC is a configuration installed by your LEC. This configuration will not direct calls to any carrier should intraLATA or interLATA toll calls be attempted. The NO PIC configuration is eligible for PIC charges and your LEC is billing the charges to recoup their cost for maintaining that status on your lines.
Q: Is it possible to have multiple cellphones with the same phone number?
A: Per the FCC, it is possible to have more than one cellphone with the same phone number. However, there are restrictions. Each of the individual phones must have a unique Electronic Serial Number, or ESN. ESNs are programmed into cellphones as they are manufactured, and are used to identify whether users can obtain service as well as to ensure proper accounting of all activity. Other restrictions include whether the cellular carrier has software in place to handle the novel billing requirements and a fraud detection system that will not be alerted when multiple phones are using the same number.
