Vodavi Wireless Handset For Mobile IP

Vodavi Technology, a provider of business telecommunications solutions, has extended the benefits of mobile IP communications with the introduction of Nomad. The wireless IP handset gives users of Vodavi's Telenium and XTS-IP the ability to send and receive calls through their phone extensions while roaming the campus or at Wi-Fi hotspots located worldwide. Benefits include convenient wireless technology for people on the go, reduced dependence on and costs associated with traditional cell phone service, mobile high-speed Internet access and fewer missed calls.

"The ability to adopt those IP products that will provide the biggest return in terms of cost-savings and mobility for employees is a significant reason why businesses are taking the leap and upgrading their telecommunication systems to IP," said Jack Roffler, Vice President of Olympic Telephone.

The introduction of wireless technology has brought the ability to extend communication beyond the desktop telephone. Nomad allows workers within a campus environment or retail location covering a large area to remain accessible and connected to their phone extensions while roaming around the building. It operates on the corporate IP network via wireless access points placed throughout the site.

The handset is also usable from any 802.11b or 802.11g wireless hotspot such as those in coffee shops, airports and hotels gives users access to all the features of their business telephone. As calls are processed through the company's telephone network and not via a cellular service provider, additional costs savings are achieved.

Features include message wait lamp, navigation pad, selectable ring tones, phone book, call history log, schedule with alarms and one-button mode activation. Those connected to Telenium have an extended set of features including system text messaging and Push-to-Talk, which lets a Nomad user communicate with another without dialing.

The introduction joins other mobile IP endpoints introduced earlier this year including:

Nomad SP - a remote extension of the telephone system that resides on a desktop or laptop PC. A USB headset and broadband connection is all that is required. It also integrates with popular contact management systems for enhanced productivity.

Nomad PDA - links a Windows-based PDA to the host telephone system extension and provides mobility convenience.

Nomad VP - allow users to videoconference and share PC applications simultaneously. It enables distant associates to collaborate on projects and eliminates travel expenses.

"Businesses often find themselves in a constant race with competitors to offer better products and services and provide superior customer service," states Greg Roeper, Vodavi President and CEO. "Mobile accessibility via Nomad is useful for employees who need to remain accessible to external and internal customers no matter where they are within a facility. Adding mobile solutions to a company's strategic communications plan is not a matter of if they should be added but how fast they should be made available."
