A good tip can improve almost any situation. In this article cost and efficiency are the specific focus. Consider implementing these tips for your organization to control and limit unexpected and costly telecom charges.
#1: Review LEC invoices each month for third-party billing. They are companies that post charges on these invoices for payment. Frequently organizations such as USBI, EBSI, ZPDI, Integretel and National Directory Assistance issue rogue or suspect charges in hopes that customers will pay the bill without question. A best practice is always to review charges from third-party billers to ensure they are legitimate and approved for payment.
Instances of third-party billing that may be legitimate are collect calling charges, but beware of these from international locations as they may be falsified. If collect calling charges cannot be reconciled as accurate, contact the biller and request details.
#2: Implement PIC Freezes with all LEC service providers. This is an administrative block on LEC switched voice service-associated PICs and LPICs. The purpose of the block is to reduce or eliminate the ability for third parties to change your PICs without your knowledge or consent. In cases where PIC Freezes fail to work, the fact that the block was implemented assists in gaining remedy within a reasonable timeframe. Also financial liabilities for charges associated with incorrect PICs that were changed without your authorization are limited. Contact your LECs to inquire about their process for implementing PIC Freezes on your switched voice service lines and associated accounts.
#3: Eliminate LEC calling cards and prevent them from being used. These are some of the most expensive telecom tools around. Many LECs issue cards when new invoice accounts are established for local phone service or when new voice lines are added to existing accounts. These rates are the highest amongst all classifications of calling cards. Best practice dictates that internal staff placing service orders to establish new accounts or add new voice lines should explicitly state that no calling cards should be issued.
