WASHINGTON, D.C. – COMPTEL, the leading trade association for the competitive communications industry, today announced that Royce J. Holland, executive chairman of Masergy Communications Inc. and a pioneer in the competitive communications industry, will be the featured speaker at the COMPTEL PLUS CEO Breakfast.  This breakfast will be held in conjunction with the COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2012 Convention & EXPO, taking place October 7-10 at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas.

An invitation-only event for C-level executives of COMPTEL member companies, the CEO Breakfast is scheduled for Monday, October 8, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. In addition to Holland’s featured presentation, breakfast attendees will have the opportunity to network with their peers and discuss hot topics impacting their businesses and the industry.

As a founder of two successful competitive local exchange carriers, Holland has more than three decades of executive experience guiding companies from start-up to IPO to acquisition. Holland will share his unique perspective on the market and discuss strategies for managing companies at various stages of a company’s lifecycle during his CEO Breakfast remarks.

“The communications market is dynamic and ever-changing, which presents numerous challenges for executives who are trying to grow their companies and stay one step ahead of competitors in this dynamic technology-driven environment,” Holland said. “I look forward to speaking with my industry colleagues at the COMPTEL PLUS CEO Breakfast, to share my experiences, engage in discussion about the trends impacting our industry and discuss the challenges of managing a company in a continuously evolving business environment.”

Holland has served as Masergy’s executive chairman of the board of directors since February 2008 and a member of the board of directors since January 2005. In this role, he is responsible for strategic and operational direction, in addition to oversight of the company. Prior to becoming executive chairman of Masergy, Holland was CEO and director of McLeod USA, a competitive local exchange carrier that was sold to PAETEC in January 2008. Holland was also previously co-founder, chairman and CEO of Allegiance Telecom Inc., from 1997 until its 2004 acquisition by XO Communications Inc. Before founding Allegiance, he served as president and co-founder of MFS Communications Company Inc., one of the first competitive local carriers with operations in 52 metropolitan areas in North America, Europe and Asia.

Holland is a former chairman of ALTS, the trade association for facilities-based CLECs that became part of COMPTEL in 2005, and was appointed by President George H. W. Bush to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. He also was appointed by Gov. George W. Bush to the Texas E-Government Task Force.
