A French high-technology group with an international dimension, Sagemcom operates on markets of broadband (digital home, digital set-top box, broadband and residential terminals), telecom and energy (M2M, telecommunications infrastructure, smartgrid and metering), and management of documents (printing terminals, software and solutions, digital production workflow).  With a turnover of over 1.4 billion Euros, Sagemcom employs 6 000 people on five continents; already a European leader in most of its key markets, Sagemcom aims to become a world leader in high added value communicating terminals.

Jean Champagne, General Manager, and Sebastien Boire-Lavigne, Director of Technology and Development, at Sagemcom discuss the growing market for Fax over IP (FoIP) at the International Avaya Users Group conference. They point out that there are 100 billion faxes sent each year. Although many believe the fax machine is dying, Sagemcom sees their Fax over IP market growing 30 to 40% each year. The FoIP standard T.38 that they support has better reliability than the analog Fax standard T.30 operating over a G.711 connection running over VoIP. T.38 also uses about 1/3 the bandwidth of the T.30 approach. They also point out that getting rid of dedicated Fax lines also reduces costs. They believe that FoIP services in the cloud will bring a richer set of services than most enterprises have access to today for Fax transmission.
